CHWAY


Syllable Five:   Chway [Bear sound] (pronounced "way" with a "ch" in front.)

Element: Water
Season: Winter
Organ:  Kidney/Bladder

Method:
· Standing with feet slightly closer than in the horse stance, allow your arms to hang loosely at your side palms facing inward.
· Taking a deep inhalation bring your hands in front of your naval.
· As you begin to exhale making the form of the sound "chway" slowly bend your knees and squat down to the ground.
· Try to keep the spine fairly erect as you crouch.  Slightly contract the pelvic muscles and keep the palms facing each other in front.
· When your breath is empty and your body is in a full crouch with your arms around your knees and palms out in front, begin the next inhalation and slowly rise to the original position.  
· Relax, and repeat six times.

Benefits:
Builds and strengthens kidney energy, clears and tonifies the kidney meridian and stimulates the adrenal glands.  This is a remedy for sexual debility and any kidney bladder ailment.
Note: If you suffer from hypertension, avoid this exercise until your blood pressure is normalized.  If your knees are too weak, wait until you build up these muscle with other qi gong exercises.
